Arthur Reborn – Synopsis in Exactly 500 Words

What do you know of Elaine and her place in Arthurian Legends?

Beginning in modern times, the ensemble converges on a town square, where there is a statue of a boy with his hands on a sword stuck in stone.  Each one sings of what they want out of life (“I Wish”).  A flash of lightning, a crash of thunder, and we are now in ancient times, where Young Arthur has just pulled the Sword from the Stone (“More Than A Man”).  Merlin, as council to Arthur, and Elaine, as a foil for Merlin, watch Young Arthur form a group of knights (“My Arthur, My King”), and gain the support of the townspeople (“Our Land”).  Young Arthur meets Morgause, the sister he didn’t know he had, and his future Queen, Guinevere.  He convinces the honorable Lancelot to lead his knights (“My Greatest Knight”).  Recently rescued from drowning by Lancelot, Elaine vows to marry him, and become a wizard to win him over (“Can I Be The One”).  Young Arthur is warned by Merlin not to act rashly or arrogantly as he receives Excalibur (“More Than A Man (Reprise)”), while instantly transforming into an adult.  Arthur and his knights vanquish their foes, returning to the village where Elaine, now known as the wizardess Elvia, Morgause, and Guinevere await.  Lancelot is introduced to Guinevere and sparks fly. Following a night of drunken revelry at the Round Table (“Knights Of The Table Round”), Lancelot seduces Guinevere and Arthur, completely drunk, sleeps with Morgause. Guinevere laments the sex with Lancelot (“I Do Not Love Him Like I Should”).  After his one-night stand with Morgause, Arthur banishes her from the kingdom. Morgause gives birth to Arthur’s bastard son, Mordred. Together they plot to take him down (“This Woman Scorned”). (“Come What May”)  END OF ACT I

Mordred gathers an army to go against Arthur (“Change Is Coming”).  Arthur mopes (“Where Did This All Go Wrong?”).  Lancelot fled the kingdom after trysting with Guinevere and is uncertain whether to return (“To The Old Times”).  Arthur finds his way back from despair (“Our Land/More Than A Man (Reprise)”). Elvia suggests to Merlin an alternative to hostilities between Mordred and Arthur, before taking a gift to Lancelot (“Why Won’t You Love Me Too”).  Arthur reconciles with Guinevere (“I Still Believe”) and rallies his knights, but rejects the advice given to him by Elvia.  He sings of having learned from his mistakes (“In My Next Life”), then leads his knights into battle (“The Final Battle”).  Arthur and Mordred meet.  Mordred deals Arthur a fatal blow, but before dying, Arthur slits Mordred’s throat.  Elvia re-enters and laments the scene in front of her, but before she can finish, the stage reverts to a modern-day town square (“I Wish (Reprise)”) with a statue of a knight in shining armor.  The ensemble again sings of what they desire, the statue comes alive, and the knight is revealed to be Elaine.  END OF ACT II  Encore (Come What May (Reprise)”)
